Zygomatic implants are used when patients have too little upper jaw bone for conventional implants - and don't want (or can't have) extensive bone grafting.

They anchor in the cheekbone instead of the jawbone.

The Anatomy: Why the Cheekbone?

The zygomatic bone (cheekbone) is a dense cortical bone structure that remains stable even when the upper jaw (maxilla) has severely resorbed. Zygomatic implants pass through the sinus and engage the zygomatic bone at 30–50mm length - providing excellent primary stability even without alveolar bone support.

Who Needs Zygomatic Implants?

Patients with severe upper jaw bone loss (Type IV or V atrophy on the Cawood-Howell scale). Patients who have worn upper dentures for many years (accelerates bone loss). Patients previously told they need extensive bone grafting (3+ procedures) before conventional implants can be placed. Patients with failed conventional implants due to insufficient bone.
